Children’s Tennis Class Bujumbura, Burundi

Lives in Focus recently had the privilege of giving 30 children in Bujumbura, Burundi, an experience they will never forget – their first introduction to tennis.

Many of these children face daily struggles that most of us can hardly imagine. Opportunities to play, move freely, and just be kids are rare. This event gave them a chance to do exactly that.

Under the guidance of passionate local coaches, the children learned the basics of tennis, played fun games, and discovered the joy of trying something entirely new. Watching their faces light up with excitement and curiosity reminded us why these moments matter so much.

The impact extended beyond the court. Every child also received a nutritious meal, because at Lives in Focus we believe no child should have to learn, play, or grow on an empty stomach. Combining sport, nourishment, and encouragement created a safe, uplifting space where the children could feel supported and inspired.

Remarkably, just $25 is all it takes to give a child a place in one of these sessions. For that small amount, a child receives more than a tennis lesson – they gain a meal, a sense of belonging, and perhaps a glimpse of hope for the future.

For children facing difficult circumstances, experiences like this can plant the belief that change is possible, that their dreams matter, and that their future can hold more than they ever imagined.
